Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer
Pickerel Contracting Ltd. Is currently seeking a Full-time Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer to join our Road Crew. You will report to the foreman/manager for duties, including safety, preventative maintenance on equipment, and operating various equipment on diverse work sites. To be successful in this role, you should be knowledgeable of road construction, safety regulations, willing to learn on the job, be able to work in inclement weather, have exceptional communication, team player, have time management and problem-solving skills.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with general labor duties when needed, in order to complete construction projects
- Road maintenance for all seasons (snow removal, grading, patching, ditching etc.)
- Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozer, excavator, and backhoe to perform excavation, grading, and site preparation tasks
- Clean, lubricate, and maintain equipment
- Conduct pretrip, post trip and walk around inspection of equipment before/after use
- Report any repair issues or equipment hazards immediately
- Secure special attachments to equipment
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Work following all health and safety laws and regulations
- Be environmentally conscious and follow guidelines.
- Identify and report risks, near misses and incidents with the goal of supporting and developing Pickerel Contracting safety standards.
- Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively
- Have good dexterity and like to work with your hands
- Enjoy working indoors or outdoors in all seasons
- Like to solve problems and build solutions
- Document daily operations and maintain logs of equipment usage and maintenance
- Respect and respond to direction given by Supervisor, Managers, Board of Directors and Chief and Council
QUALIFICATIONS
- MUST have valid G driver's license
- MUST have valid operator’s license and certification for heavy machinery
- Class D/Z an asset
- A clean driving abstract.
- Mechanically inclined preferred
- Sound knowledge of road safety regulations.
- Able to lift 50lbs, stand/sit for long periods of time.
- Have good dexterity and like to work with your hands
- Current First Aid and CPR Level C
- Excellent communication, organization and time-management skills
- Professional attitude and a strong work ethic
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
HOURS OF WORK
Full-Time – 40+ hrs/week
REMUNERATION
$22-$30 per hour plus benefits after 6 months.
