10th COVID 19 UPDATE May 28, 2020

As each day passes, we continue to monitor the COVID 19 reports of new cases, and they are not going down. Today, we've discussed the following:

  1. Restricted Access (Roadblocks) Pickerel R Rd. and Bekanon Rd.
    Members with spouses that may be nonmembers of HIFN are allowed into the community, however when these visits occur, we expect no unnecessary contact with on-reserve members.
  2. Food Distribution
    The next scheduled date for food distribution is June I, 2020, please contact Lyndy McQuabbie by calling the Administration office on Tuesdays or Thursdays or by private text to (705) 988-4021.

  3. Re-Opening the Administration
    Staff of HIFN we want your input on how we possibly re-open, if you haven't already done so, please check your email on the memo circulated on May 20, 2020.

  4. Fire Ban
    Please respect the current FIRE BAN in place, CAMPFIRES for cooking or warmth are only permitted. If you make a fire, al no time is our cam fire to be left unattended. Fireworks and burning of brush or grass is still prohibited.

  5. Gas Bar
    Upgrade to our Gas Bar has begun, you will see new pumps and a new larger building constructed this week. Unfortunately, you will not be able to purchase gas this week and or next. Please note the Gas Bar will be shut down Tuesday, June 2, 2020, & Thursday, June 4, 2020, as well to complete.

  6. Student Summer Employment
    Student summer employment is currently on our minds. We are currently attempting to determine how many students are interested in working this summer and how we will manage this. If a graduating Grade 8 student entering a secondary level school is interested in working this summer please submit your resume to Genevieve S Dubois, Education Counsellor. This applies to any secondary level students as well.

  7. Locations to be tested for COVID 19
    As you may be aware from watching the news, Premier Doug Ford encourages everyone to be tested for COVID 19. You may do so, at the following locations by calling and making an appointment prior:
     - Health Sciences North Sudbury, ON 
     - West Parry Sound Health Centre, Parry Sound, ON
    Be advised that following testing you will be expected to self-isolate for 14 days.

  8. Community Clean Up
    Thank you to all who participated in our Community Clean Up ofNon­Household garbage on May 19, 2020. Unfortunately, there was a sorting issue of the material delivered to the Key River Landfill, and we were unable to make any further deliveries. So, if you still have Non-Household garbage that requires to be taken away, please be patient, we will announce when we will do another cleanup.

  9. COVID 19 in First Nations
    We continue to monitor confirmed COVID 19 cases in First Nations across Canada, we are not aware of any cases in our immediate area.

Remember if you need to go out, make sure it's for a good reason;

  1. To purchase groceries
  2. Pick up prescriptions
  3. Attend a medical appointment/procedure
  4. Practice good hygiene, wash, sanitize your hands frequently, social distance, and WEAR A MASK.

 When issues are brought forth, there's a lot of discussion and in some instances, we definitely struggle with the decisions that need to be made. We appreciate your cooperation and heeding the directives we create, it's for your ultimate safety.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Anishinaabek Wiidosendiwak (formerly the Henvey Inlet First Nation Child and Family Wellbeing Project) is a transformative initiative by Henvey Inlet First Nation (HIFN) to assert jurisdiction over the care and protection of HIFN’s children and families. Supported by Indigenous Services Canada, this project focuses on developing a child and family services law that reflects Anishinaabe values and traditions. Community engagement and consultation are integral to the project to ensure the new law meets the needs of children, youth, and families both on and off-reserve. Key partners include the HIFN Band Representative Program, the Anishinaabek Wiidosendiwak Working Group, engagement specialists Avaanz, and the law firm Fogler Rubinoff.

Henvey Inlet First Nation is seeking a full-time Janitor to join our Administration. The Janitor reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for cleaning all HIFN commercial buildings at the end of each business day. The Janitor will perform general cleaning duties including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning and stocking restrooms, washing walls and windows, cleaning the kitchen and fridge, disinfecting all high-touch surfaces and trash removal. This position requires strong self-motivation, great attention-to-detail and excellent time-management skills.

HOUSING AND FINANCE ASSISTANT

Henvey Inlet First Nation is seeking a full-time Housing and Finance Assistant to join our Administration. The Housing and Finance Assistant reports to the Director of Finance/Administration and is responsible for coordinating preventative maintenance for all Band-owned housing units and supervising all housing maintenance and repairs. The Housing and Finance Assistant receives and reviews all housing applications and inquiries, and, in collaboration with the Housing Committee, recommends tenants to Chief and Council for vacant units in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth in the Housing Policy. The Housing and Finance Assistant will also support the Finance Department with maintaining housing and financial budgets, reports and books, and processing accounts payables, receivables and payroll as assigned.
