NNDSB Update on Parry Sound JK-12

School Construction

Press release dated August 13, 2025.

Near North District School Board is sharing an important update with valued First Nation Partners regarding the construction of the new JK-12 school in Parry Sound.

nndsb letterThe board has now confirmed that the facility will not be ready for the first day of school in September 2025. While this delay is disappointing,  NNDSB is actively implementing short term solutions that will ensure a safe and smooth start to the school year for all students.

We want to reaffirm our commitment to First Nation partners. Your partnership is essential, and we are working closely with school and system leaders to ensure continuity of Native Second Language (NSL) Programming and culturally responsive supports.

Staffing decisions are being made with care to ensure indigenous students continue to receive the support they need during this transition.

At this time, we can confirm that JK- Grade 6 students who were set to attend McDougall Public School for September will attend that school location as originally planned. Students in Grades 9- 12 will begin the school year at the current Parry Sound High School building. All Grades 7-8 Students will attend the Nobel Public School site. Once the new school building is complete, students and staff will transition to their new home.

We deeply value the relationships we have with First Nations partners, and we are committed to ensuring that Indigenous Students feel supported, respected, and connected throughout this transition. Regular updates will be shared directly with families and First Nation partners as our planning continues.

If any questions feel free to contact: Sylvia Rhee 705-857-2331 ext: 229
